My popcorn writing

This week we have been writing about why popcorn pops here is my writing.

Why Popcorn Pops

Did you know Christopher Columbus allegedly introduced popcorn to the Europeans in the late 15th century. Before we go any further I need to tell you what makes the popping sound of popcorn. Popcorn starts in a field grown by a local farmer and he/she will most likely harvest the corn. Then it will be processed in a factory.

There are many different types of corn but there is only one type of corn that pops. Popcorn has to have the right percentage of water in each tiny kernel to make it pop. If you want to know what all of the corn there is here they are Mais, Amylomaize, waxy corn, and Flint corn. All of the kernels need to have 19% of water in them to pop otherwise they would be able to pop into the soft white fluffy cloud.

Here is why the popcorn pops. The reason why popcorn pops is the water trapped inside its kernel. If the kernel is heated to a hot enough temperature, this water turns into steam because it gets too hot and evaporates. With high temperatures, the starch gelatinizes and then expands with the rapid burst of the kernel.

There are many different ways popcorn is eaten. It is mainly made in movie theaters, that's where it's best. The way it gets cooked in the burning hot oil or slippy butter yum. There are many flavors of popcorn even you can do there's buttered, caramel, and chocolate etc my personal favorite is probably classic buttered the way it just melts in your mouth and how it tastes like a fluffy cloud.

In conclusion I would like to remind you about all the different ways to eat popcorn and why popcorn pops. The different ways to eat it, most people like to use plain popcorn and add icing sugar, or they just buy chocolate covered, caramel salted, sea salt (normal salt) or the best one in my opinion buttered popcorn. Next time you eat a piece of popcorn just remember how it pops... popcorn pops because it starts as a tiny kernel with 19% of water trapped inside then when that water gets heated to the right temperature and turns into steam which the outer shell pop explodes open and that's how popcorn turns into that small, soft, fluffy piece of treat food we all love and enjoy to eat when going to the movies or staying at home to eat.
